WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK?
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat, and tightens separated muscles, in order to create a firmer and smoother abdominal area. Individuals of all types of proportions or body weights may at some point develop a loose or protruding abdomen. A tummy tuck surgery is used to treat the following:
- Sagging skin caused by extreme weight fluctuations
- Sagging skin after pregnancy
- Inelasticity in skin due to aging
WHY GET A TUMMY TUCK?
With time, as one ages, numerous factors may cause skin to lose its elasticity. A tight abdomen is an appearance that many people strive for through exercise and diet. Sometimes these methods are not enough. While these symptoms are a natural part of aging, a tummy tuck may be an option to consider for those who wish to achieve a tighter abdomen.
HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?
A tummy tuck surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Ocampo will determine best procedures for each individual patient. He will tailor incisions dependent upon appearance of the abdomen and the extent of changes wanted. Length and shape of incisions will vary for each individual. Dr. Ocampo will repair underlying abdominal muscles. Excess skin will be trimmed and the remaining skin will be replaced, and sutured to close incision sites. Recovery will reveal a flatter, firmer abdomen with more natural looking contours proportionate to the patient’s body type, almost immediately.
