WHAT IS BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?

Breast reduction (mammaplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and excess breast fat in order to reduce the size of the breast, according to the patient’s desired outcome. Breast reduction is used to treat the following:

  • Alleviate any discomfort that is caused by overly large breasts

WHY HAVE BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?

For patients with naturally large breasts, breast reduction surgery can help to eliminate any discomfort. In some cases, overly large breasts can cause unnecessary pain. For those patients who wish to eliminate the discomfort, breast reduction surgery is an option to consider.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Ocampo will determine best procedures for each individual patient. Incisions will be tailored depending upon the current appearance of the breasts and the desired outcome. Dr. Ocampo will determine how the excess fat will be removed (liposuction, excision techniques) depending on the amount of excess skin. Following the removal of underlying breast tissues, the nipple may be repositioned to a higher location on the breast, and incisions will be closed with sutures. Swelling is normal. Recovery will reveal almost immediate results.
