WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

A face lift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that improves the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. The loss of youthful contours in the face can be due to a variety of factors: heredity, gravity, environmental conditions, and stress. Facelift surgery lifts and firms the sagging facial tissues in order to restore a more natural, youthful appearance. A face lift is used to treat the following:

  • Sagging in the middle of your face
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
  • Loss of skin tone in the lower face that creates jowls
  • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw
  • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth

WHY HAVE A FACELIFT?

With time and as one ages, skin begins to lose its elasticity, and the facial tissues begin to lose volume. This can result in deep wrinkles, loose skin on the neck, or even “jowls” on the lower face. These are natural symptoms of growing older. A facelift surgery is an option to consider for those patients who may be bothered, or feel self-conscious, by any of these signs of aging.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK?

A facelift will be customized and individualized for each patient according to his or her needs. Dr. Ocampo tailors accordingly. The exact technique used during surgery is dependent upon numerous factors, such as a patient’s anatomy, personal goals, etc. Facelifts are generally performed using general anesthesia, although local anesthesia with sedation may be an option in less extensive procedures. Dr. Ocampo will make the initial incisions ( in front of the ear region ), then separate the skin from the underlying connective tissue and muscles. Dr. Ocampo will then reposition the deeper facials tissues, create a firmer foundation for the skin, and eliminate the jowls. Any excess skin will be removed and the remaining skin is gently laid, and placed back over the rejuvenated face tissues, which will give the face a smoother and more youthful contour effect.
